RELAY FOR LIFE
RELAY FOR LIFE
Almost ready for the Relay For Life! Finishing packing and loading (my god you would think we were going away for a week). Beautiful day ahead for the Relay for Life. 75 degrees today and 55ish tonight. Great walking temp!
Sorry I am gonna miss the Philly Phreak Night with my girls but you guys have a blast and drink some for me..... Next time.
I can't wait to see pics.
100+ Miles
100+ Miles
Well my ladies, I just got home from the Relay for Life. My team logged in well over 100 miles last night. I walked 16 myself and my sisters walked more while I was dealing with "ISSUES". And I don't think a single one of us can walk straight or will be doing much of the such in the near future or week or two!!!
We had alot of fun other than having to deal with issues with my ex aka "jack ass" who decided to stand the kids up at the Relay and not take them overnight (did I mention it was 45 degrees?). Eventually a tearful call from the 7 year old that has an ear infection to boot got him to come get the younger two about 10:00. Anyways enough about that.
It was a great night. The goal for the Relay was to reach $1,000,000. I'm not sure if they made it but last I heard they were getting fairly close. I did not get as many pics as last year but hopefully I got a few good ones to post. Have a great day and I'm gonna go crash for a long long time....... NIGHT (or should I say DAY?)
4 Days Til Relay
4 Days Til Relay
Here I sit, being the Pro Procrastinator that I am, down to 4 days until the Relay for Life, having done what seems like nothing. Being only registered for about 3 weeks I think we have probably raised maybe $300 or so. I have no idea what we will do for onsite fundraising. I never found time to make Carmie's awesome ribbons to sell (next year)! We haven't walked at all this year so obviously walking all night will be out of the question this year.
With all of this aside I still can't wait until the Relay For Life. To see all of these people gathered with such strong conviction and determination to tackle such an awful disease. As our survivors do on a day to day basis. Through the hell and horror that some can't even imagine.
We take one day out of our chaotic lives and dedicate it to them and thier fight. To remember those that have lost this awful battle and to give hope to those that are on the front lines every day.
I just can't wait to give my all to a cause that has touched me so dearly!!!

Relay For Life
Very few of us can say that we haven’t been touched by cancer in one way or another. Personally my mom has been fighting cancer for a few years now. After going into remission for about a year she was re-diagnosed with stage 4 Colon Cancer and is still fighting non-stop. My boss successfully fought Melanoma with treatments for a year and I have a few friends that have and are fighting breast cancer along with one that has been struggling with a rare form of Lymphoma. Cancer seems to rear its ugly head everywhere and I have learned that no one is immune to it.
After two years of talking about starting a Relay for Life team with my sisters, on my way to work one day I happened to be listening to the radio and they were advertising for the Local Relay for Life. So I decided to call them right then and there and dragged my sisters along for the ride. I will say that it was one of the most heart-felt and touching things I have ever experienced in my life.
The Relay for Life, for those that don't know, is a 24 hour Cancer walk, held on behalf of the American Cancer Society, usually held at a high school with a track. The community raises money to help find a cure and for 24 hours teams of 15 - 20 walk around the track, taking turns to keep their team walking for the entire 24 hours. The Survivor Lap normally kicks off the event and the Luminaria Ceremony is very beautiful and heart touching. You can have fun and raise money for a good cause all at the same time. A large portion of the funds raised are kept local for helping local cancer patients.
For more information go to www.relayforlife.org and find local events to find an event near you. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone and you will not regret it.
Aso check out Carmsblog for more information about the Relay For Life and joining us to help out with the Relay For Life. Both of our blogs have been brought on by a great post by our very own great Conchita!!! Please help us out with our efforts.
